January Kiva Donation: Khalida’s Jewelry
Khalida and her family in Pakistan get all of their income from jewelry sales. It’s a tough life, and she is working with her husband to increase sales and construct a new home for her family. Their current home is in no shape for a family to live.
They are in the Lahore region of Pakistan, which has an average income of less than $5,000 per year. The average American income is $50,000 per year. It is not uncommon for families in developing countries to save money by investing in a home, sometimes building it slowly, brick by brick. Rather than having a savings account, which can be expensive for low-income people, they invest in building materials, and save their money that way.
Khalida and her family came to the local microloan partner BRAC Pakistan to help finance additional inventory to sell and improvements to their home. Brode Electrolyte Vitamin has contributed $100 toward their loan. Good luck Khalida!
